Our Story
From One Bungalow to Five Campuses
What began as a small kindergarten on Kindaruma Road has grown, campus by campus, into a school that now serves learners from the early years through senior school. The chapters below follow that journey — the places, the people, and the moments that shaped St. Hannah's.
Incorporation and Beginnings
St. Hannah's School was incorporated in 1980 and opened its doors in 1981 as a kindergarten with six pupils, in a small bungalow on Kindaruma Road near Yaya Centre. From that modest start, the founders set out to offer quality Christian education, and the little school steadily grew as more families placed their children in its care.
Primary Wing Expansion
In 1985, a primary wing was opened at Three Dee Lane, Karen, to accommodate increasing demand and provide dedicated primary education facilities. That first primary wing became the foundation of what is now the Karen Campus, giving learners a settled place to continue beyond the early years.
Relocation to Ngong Road Campus
The kindergarten at Kindaruma Road relocated in 1998 to the present-day Ngong Road Campus, opposite Jamhuri Exchange. A second primary campus was established there, offering larger and better facilities for families living in Kilimani and the surrounding areas, and giving the school a lasting home in that part of the city.
Introduction of Boarding Facilities
In 2000, boarding facilities were introduced at the Karen campus to cater to students from outside Nairobi and neighbouring countries. Learners could now remain part of the school community through the week, with the structure and care of a home away from home.
Mixed High School
In the same year, a mixed boys' and girls' high school was started at the Three Dee Lane campus, marking an exciting new chapter. Eric Njau and Lila Shepherd were among the pioneer learners, and that first intake was a major step toward the comprehensive school St. Hannah's would become.
Boys' High School Relocation and Permanent Campus
On 7 January 2002, the boys' high school moved to Ngong Road campus, providing separate spaces for boys and girls. The boys' campus found its permanent home on Karen Plains Road in September 2002, offering an ideal learning environment.
Girls' High School Campus
The girls' high school remained in Karen while a campus of their own took shape, with initial development of the Farm Lane site beginning in 2010. On 6 January 2013, the high school girls moved to that campus at Farm Lane, Karen, creating a specialised setting tailored to the needs of female students, to foster their academic and personal development.
Runda Campus
Growth continued in the years that followed, including a dedicated Early Learning Centre beside the Ngong Road campus in 2016. On 23 January 2023, St. Hannah's School expanded into Kiambu County, opening its fifth campus at Runda. That step carries forward the founders' vision of quality Christian education, reaching more families across Nairobi and beyond.

Today, St. Hannah's stands as a multi-campus institution offering holistic education from early years to high school — serving learners from approximately 18 months to 18 years across Nairobi and Kiambu County.
